What is a Domain Name?

What is a Subdomain?
Sub Domains give you more choices in structuring your web site. Your main domain name will be something like www.yoursite.com. Subdomains could be something like shopping.yoursite.com or search.yoursite.com.

What is Web Hosting and why do I need it?
When you have a web site, you need a computer that people can connect to and view the site. Unless you want to spend thousands of dollars on an expensive web server, a high speed Internet connection and people to keep your computer running all the time, you probably want to use a professional hosting service.

What is the difference between a POP E-mail and a Web Mail account?
A POP e-mail account is probably the same kind of e-mail account you have from your Internet provider, where you use a program to read and send messages, like Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger. A Web Mail account is one that is accessible from a web page. Examples are Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, etc.

What is a Forwarding E-mail account?
All mail sent to a forwarding e-mail account automatically is sent to another e-mail account. For example, you could set up an account for support@yoursite.com and have all e-mail sent to that address be sent to bob@yoursite.com.

What is an E-mail Auto Responder?
E-mail auto responders send an instant reply to the sender, letting them know that their e-mail was received and will be replied to shortly.

What is a Shopping Cart and do I need one?
A shopping cart is a program used on a web site that has products to sell. It allows the customer to select the products, review what they have selected, make necessary modifications or additions, and purchase the merchandise.

How do I setup Credit Card Processing?
If you are already setup to accept credit cards for you business, you don't need to have a separate service for your web site.
If you do need to be setup to accept credit cards, there are a number of services we can help you get setup with. PayPal is probably the least expensive option.

What is a Secure Server and do I need it?
Using a secure server is a safer way to send information over the Internet. Secure servers encrypt the information in a secret code that is very hard to break, allowing on-line shoppers to send credit card numbers and other information safely.

What kind of Internet Connection do I need?
Your web site and your Internet connection are totally separate things, so neither one affects the other. You don't even need an Internet connection to have a web site.
